Siberian Russian folk domestic tales are an integral part of the treasure-house of Russian folklore. Unlike magical tales, aimed mainly at children, domestic tales are intended exclusively for adults.
In these fictional stories, behind strange circumstances and fantastic plots, there is a genuine folk way of life. Wise teachings are voiced subtly, indirectly—along with kind, though slightly rough, humor.
A special place in the genre of domestic tales is occupied by stories about wives—evil and stubborn, or foolish and lazy, and besides that, unfaithful. By ridiculing human vices, these tales uphold people’s ideals of goodness and justice.
Sometimes the listener doesn’t even notice how the storyteller who entertained and amused him has planted benevolent seeds in his soul…
