The Ardis audio studio invites you to listen to a translation of the world-famous novel “Tale of Yoshitsune,” rendered from Old Japanese by Arkady Strugatsky.
At the center of the narrative is the tragic and vivid fate of Minamoto Yoshitsune, one of the heroes of the war between the Taira and Minamoto feudal houses in the 1180s.
In Strugatsky’s preface to the novel, written for Russian readers who have never heard of Yoshitsune’s exploits, the background of events in the Japanese chivalric novel of the 14th–15th centuries is explained, as well as the role of the hero in Japan’s history. After each chapter, we included Strugatsky’s comments clarifying puzzling terms.
