The world learned the name of the English writer Daphne du Maurier in 1938, after the publication of the novel “Rebecca,” and although several generations of readers have changed since then, her fame has not faded.

The story collection “The Blue Lenses,” published in 1959, includes eight unusual stories. In them, the author explores the delicate line separating the real world from the world of imagination, normality from anomaly, the play of fantasy from crime. Where is the truth, where is the lie—who can you trust? Who will manage to stay on the very last edge? Who will cross it and take the step after which there will be a collapse, disaster, tragedy?..

Three stories from the collection—“The Pond,” “The Duchess of Lanchester,” and “The Trophy”—are published in Russian for the first time.
