The hero-narrator of the adventure story “The Dao Syndrome” goes to China to study Taoist wisdom, expecting lessons under an experienced teacher. He doesn’t suspect that he will face not only pleasant conversations with the Master and a beautiful translator, but also a chain of mysterious events, in which he is forced to take part by circumstances. The hero becomes a witness to inexplicable—and sometimes frightening—coincidences, but the meaning of them will be understood only after a long time. However, the biggest test will be the confrontation with his own past—letting it go is the first and most necessary task on the path of a beginner Daoist.
