Description
Long ago, Earth sent its children on enormous ships to colonize other planets. One of those ships lost its way and made an emergency landing on an unfamiliar planet. This planet is all ocean, populated by hostile creatures, with scattered archipelagos of islands. From the metal sail of the starship, wings were cut. That’s how the Letators (winged flyers) appeared and took their special place in this world. They soared in the skies and were equal to the Rulers. They ensured the fastest possible communication on this planet between the scattered islands. The main heroine, Maris, is a fisherman’s daughter. From childhood she dreamed of flying, even though she knew she would never own wings—only inheritance passes them down. However, thanks to a stroke of luck—perhaps Fate herself looked kindly on her for such fierce longing—Maris got the wings and began to fly. The book’s events unfold in a fairly traditional way. Maris joins the community of the Letators. Defending her right to fly, she topples age-old foundations and brings change. She manages to make it so that anyone can own wings, regardless of origin. You just have to prove your skill.
