Description
A classic of German literature invites you to an astonishing journey through the abandoned attics of Berlin, smoke-filled clubs of London, dark castles of France, sinful Algerian vaudevilles, and exotic ports of China. In these settings, the most horrific terrors invented by a human mind can occur. Listen and decide for yourself what is scarier—revenge by an unfaithful wife or revenge by a deceived husband, experiments by a mad scientist or the obsession of a talented artist.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Hans Ewers was called the heir to Hoffmann and, rightly, considered the main continuator of the traditions of gothic novels. The writer invented intricate stories, which were enthusiastically received by the public not only in Germany but also in France, England, the USA, and the Russian Empire. Howard Lovecraft admired how the author “grounds his dark concepts in excellent knowledge of psychology.” In addition, Ewers was fascinated by cinema, and in 1913 wrote a screenplay for the film “The Student of Prague,” which critics consider the first full-fledged horror film in world cinema.
