The ARDIS studio presents Nikolai Gogol’s novella "The Overcoat" performed by Dmitry Bykov—a talented modern prose writer, poet, publicist, and literary scholar.
"The Overcoat" is one of Gogol’s Petersburg novellas. It entered the history of Russian literature as a "manifesto of social equality and the inalienable rights of the individual in any condition and rank."
In an 1885 article, French diplomat, writer-traveler, historian of literature, and member of the French Academy Eugène-Melchior de Vogüé wrote: "All of us came out of Gogol’s Overcoat."
The audiobook also includes a lecture—an engaging talk by Dmitry Bykov about the novella that has just been read.
