Velimir Khlebnikov is the most influential Russian poet-innovator, an angel of the Russian avant-garde. Khlebnikov’s complex ideas—where utopia and trust in the world intertwine, detached contemplation and inquisitiveness—are not exhausted even to this day. In this collection, the variety of Khlebnikov’s work is presented as a single aesthetic program: the justification of art that overcomes a long-standing gap between “usefulness” and “beauty.” For Khlebnikov, art is the best instrument for examining reality, but also a special state of mind. Poems, treatises, and notes belong to one inspiration and are gathered here into a single volume. The collection was compiled by Doctor of Philology Alexander Markov.
