To record the details of bloody battles and palace intrigues without trying to take a stand, without making a choice between good and evil? The main character of Yevgeny Filenko’s novel—taken out of our time by descendants and sent as an observer to the distant past, to the legendary continent that soon will vanish into the ocean depths—faces a difficult choice. He will have to decide whether to remain a detached observer or to rise up against cruel ancient gods, knowing in advance that even victory will not bring salvation to the people of the doomed island. Moreover, having made his choice, the hero will be forced to follow it to the very end…
The novel "The Procession of the Dinosaurs" (1991) belongs to the genre of "time opera" and develops ideas as well as serving as an antithesis to the novel by A. and B. Strugatsky "It’s Hard to Be a God" (1964). The grand experiment on history conducted by our descendants using a destroyed continent and the ancient empire of Opa ilzigg suspiciously resembles a period of our own history that ended not long ago. Remarkably, all proper names and the novel’s specific vocabulary were obtained by Filenko using the program-generator of "fish languages" he wrote.
