Description
The Sheremetev family has played a significant role in Russia’s history for centuries. Field Marshal Boris Petrovich, a comrade of Peter the Great, won fame through his military exploits, and his son Pyotr Borisovich created his own theater at the Oстанкино estate. His grandson, Nikolai Petrovich, was devoted to music. With him is associated one of the most discussed love stories of that era: the count decided to marry his serf. When the young actress Parasha Zhemchugova stepped onto the stage, she captivated him. Despite the pressure of high society, Nikolai did not give up his choice and secretly married her. Their brief family life left an important mark: in memory of his wife, who died young, the count established the Sheremetev Hospital in Moscow.

This book tells the story of people who not only increased their fortune, but also knew how to share it: they built churches, supported those in need, and helped the arts to flourish. The story of the Sheremetevs reminds us that true greatness is determined not by power and wealth alone, but by the ability to love, create, and care for others.
