Walkers

Events take place in a distant future—in a reservation set up many years ago on the site of a former scientific base, where eugenics experiments were once carried out. Scientists tried to raise human intelligence by making genetic changes. The main character, a walker known by the nickname Bashmak, must come to the aid of his friend—walker Tapka: Tapka has slipped into the forbidden lands and learned that beyond the reservation there is an outside world.

In the land of the armless and the one-legged, the king is the man without legs, and the two-legged is a walker.

Bashmak was not born lucky: his fate is to serve the noble Avars, marked by the favor of the Wheel of the Primordial. The Avars are considered the most intelligent people on earth, and for their outstanding minds they are “granted” the right to move only in chairs. All hard work falls to people like Bashmak, and disobedient ones face punishment—being crushed by the sacred Rim. When Tapka is sentenced to execution by wheel-crushing, Bashmak decides on a dangerous journey through the forbidden territories to save his friend and get to the truth about a ruined, mutilated world. Ahead lie harsh trials, clashes with hostile clans, and a fight for survival where any choice can become fateful. And when the line between good and evil begins to disappear, only a walker is able to dig out the truth and turn history in a different direction.
