Shabaton. The Sabbatical Year

A shabbatical approaches—the year of creative leave, free from academic routine. Dr. Igal Ostrovsky decides to take part in a massive aircraft-manufacturing project of extreme secrecy, promising an incredibly tempting practical experience. Of course, first the doctor’s personal file undergoes the strictest inspection. And that’s where implausible and utterly mysterious facts come to light about his beloved grandfather—the most important person in his life, who replaced his father, the hero of the Spanish Civil War, and a long-term prisoner in Kolyma labor camps. It turns out that exactly the same man died in Israel in Moscow—four years before his death. How could this be? The biographical details are identical down to astonishing small things. There can’t be a coincidence… So one of the two is a fake—a counterfeit identity who stole someone else’s name and life. But who? Igal understands that he has to find out what really happened at any cost, and begins an investigation. The path to the truth will take him through sharp twists and tangled historical secrets—abundant in the turbulent and cruel XX century—and will force his world to turn upside down.
