In 1779, in England, Cecilia Beverley is supposed to receive her uncle’s inheritance, but only on the condition that her future husband takes her surname. Until she comes of age, the inheritance will be protected by guardians appointed by her uncles. When Cecilia moves from the countryside to the London home of one of the guardians, numerous suitors immediately gather around her. The girl gets swept into a whirlpool of passions and romantic intrigues.
