The author of the book is the daughter of the great designer, Natalya Sergeyevna Koroleva, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor—she truly accomplished a feat, devoting many years to gathering and studying an immense body of factual material from 16 different archives, including the archives of the Main Military Prosecutor’s Office, the Federal Security Service, the archive of the President of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Archives, and others.
In the book, the reader will learn about the family, childhood, the years of study, the first steps in designing and testing rocket technology, the difficult years of S.P. Korolev’s arrest and imprisonment, as well as the years of his greatest triumph—when his cherished dream was fulfilled: the launch of manned spacecraft with astronauts on board.
It was under the leadership of S.P. Korolev that the first intercontinental ballistic missile in the world was created, the first artificial satellite of Earth was launched, the first manned flight in the world (Yuri Gagarin) was carried out, and the first spacewalk in history by a human (Aleksei Leonov) was made; the first photograph of the Moon’s far side was obtained; the first automatic interplanetary stations “Luna,” “Venera,” “Mars,” and others were developed; and the project of the spacecraft “Soyuz” was created.
