Hoffmann’s most famous fairy tale, repeatedly reissued both abroad and in our country. Based on it, films were made, plays staged, and animated films created. But the most famous—and perhaps the most spectacular—use of this fairy tale was Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker” and its production at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg with scenery by Shemiakin. To this day, it remains one of the most vivid and imagination-stunning productions.
