Henrik Pontoppidan (1857–1943) is one of Denmark’s best writers, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1917 “for the truthful description of contemporary life in Denmark.”
The novel “Lucky Per” is the writer’s most significant work. Its main theme is the fate of the young generation of Danish intellectuals at a turning point in the country’s development.
The novel has been filmed many times. In 2018, a new adaptation was released, directed by Billy August, a multiple winner of various festivals and film awards and a two-time laureate of the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival.
