Ka'eve, a resident of the Hawaiian islands, buys a bottle in which a devil lives. The purchase terms are these: the devil will fulfill any wishes of the bottle’s owner, but in return the latter must, after death, burn in hell—unless he manages to sell the bottle during his lifetime, and at a lower price than he paid, meaning at a loss for himself. There is no other way to get rid of the bottle: once it’s thrown away, it somehow returns to its owner. Moreover, fulfilling wishes brings misfortunes to the bottle owner’s loved ones…
