Description
Author reads!

Dmitry Danilov is a playwright (“Man from Podolsk”, “Seryozha is Very Dumb”), a prose writer (“Description of a City”, “There Are Things More Important Than Football”, “Horizontal Position”), and a poet. Laureate of many awards. Behind the apparent simplicity of his texts lies the philosophy of a finely feeling, observant person—and in depictions of everyday life, the absurdity of our reality.

The main character of his new book, “Sasha, Hello!” lives under surveillance while awaiting death. What has he done— a serious crime or a minor transgression? And what kind of text is this before us—an anti-utopia or the most realistic novel?

Danilov’s book seems to be about the future, but the world of utmost comfort and total lack of freedom in which the novel’s hero finds himself feels oddly familiar: it’s a forecast for tomorrow that comes true already today. Yet even in this client-oriented prison, Danilov sees life and tells about it with irony and tenderness—so, we’ll live a bit longer.

Yuriy Saprykin

You’re still alive. But already dead. People are indifferent and selfish. People can be kind and selfless. No one cares about you. You are not alone. Every time we choose one of two things. And only Dmitry Danilov chooses everything at once.
