Description
Natsume Sōseki was one of the most educated representatives of the Japan’s Europeanized intelligentsia in the early 20th century—and at the same time, a typical Japanese man. This duality allowed him to create his uniquely appealing literary style that remains attractive to modern readers.

Sanshirō Ogawa is a 23-year-old native of a village on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu. He enters Tokyo University and meets the students and professors who make up his new environment. Psychologically, Sanshirō is immersed in three worlds: his native place, where he used to be closely connected to his mother; the university community, where intellectuals exhaust themselves chasing academic success; and a realm of feelings and emotions that his girlfriend Mineko leads him into.
