Sergey Babushkin, the author of this guidebook, is an experienced tour guide with seven years of practice. The length of the routes he compiles ranges from 7.5 to 10 km—the distance that a pedestrian can cover with a book in hand in 3–4 hours. The walks will give you the fullest possible picture of St. Petersburg’s architecture—from the Petrovian era to the 1950s. The first four walks focus on the historical part of the left bank of the Neva. The next two are devoted to Vasilyevsky Island and the Petrograd Side. The seventh and eighth routes run through the outer districts—Narvsky and Moskovsky. The final chapter offers the tourist several additional routes from 1 to 4 km in length, including the Alexander Nevsky Lavra and the distinctive Petrograd district.
