Semyon Semyonich Podsekalnikov, the main character, once in the night has a scandal with his wife and his mother-in-law over liver sausage. Then he decides to shoot himself and writes a note: “Please blame no one for my death.” And then a whole line forms for him. How is that—blame no one?! A multitude of secondary characters try to use Podsekalnikov’s fanatical determination for their own benefit. As a result, our hero remains alive, while it turns out that someone else shoots. A farce turns into tragedy.
