A sequel and spin-off of “The Day of the Oprichnik” (2006)
The Sugar, White Kremlin is the heart of Russia of the 2020s—a Russia that survived the Red, Grey, and White Troubles, shut itself off from the outside world, and fell asleep. This heart is gradually held by everyone, because even the animal keeper, the inmate, and the lilliput have at least a shard of their “sugar” copy—but in truth it belongs to no one. Fifteen novellas from the collection “Sugar Kremlin,” written as if completely differently and about different things, come together into a picture of a ghostly, doomed reality, soaking and dissolving like a sugar cube in tea.
