In July 1890, Vincent van Gogh went into a cornfield and shot himself in the heart. Why did the artist, at the height of his creative powers, attempt to take his own life… and then walked a mile to the doctor’s house to get help? Who is the twisted little “colored man” that, as Van Gogh said, haunted him all across France? And why did the artist, shortly before that, start to fear one shade of blue deadly?
These are only a few of the questions facing Vincent’s friends: the baker turned artist, Lucien L’égal (Lucien Lészard), and the bon vivant Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. They decide to find out the truth about Van Gogh’s untimely death. Their investigation will turn into a surreal odyssey through the bohemian world of late nineteenth-century Paris.
