Remember the heroine of the iconic Soviet film who says that once you’ve achieved everything, the most you want is to howl like a wolf. Vera, just like the heroine, achieved everything herself. And she certainly wants to howl like a wolf too. Unexpectedly, fate—seemingly eavesdropping on her thoughts—throws her a curveball: it sends her to Ensk, a miserable, poor little town where her childhood and youth passed, and from which she fled, leaving everything behind: a comfortable life, rags, jewelry—and her husband. A handsome Ger, the soldier, the local criminal authority. But the past won’t let itself be forgotten. Years later, Vera comes to Ensk on business, and right here—in that hated town—fate gives her a chance not only to dramatically change her life, but also to fill it with meaning.
