With Warm Regards from Fyokla

Belarusian writer Anna Zenkova is the author of serious prose for teenagers and high school students. In 2019, her novel “With Warm Greetings from Fekla” won the grand prize of the literary contest “Teenager N,” held by the publishing house “KompasGid,” as well as the International Children’s Literature Prize named after V. P. Krapivin in the category “Commander’s Choice.”

The eleven-year-old orphan Sevka, the main character of the book, and another boy from an orphanage, trying to escape bullies, hide in the forest. There they get lost and now must try to survive. In extreme circumstances, the best qualities of yesterday’s enemies emerge. And Sevka is helped greatly by the voice of the woman who shelters him—Fekla, now deceased. Her voice sounds in his head during difficult moments and always gives a kind piece of advice. Through memories of the past, we see the complicated fate of the boy and of orphans like him, who have to overcome many hardships in the struggle for life.
