The Red Knight

On an evening at the beach in a southern Russian town, an aspiring model student, Ilona Shcherbatova, is saved from her tormentors… by a rider on an enormous black horse in full armor—sword, spear, dagger, shield, and a cloak with a cross. The knight’s hair gleamed gold; his eyes shone with dignity—and, from the perspective of the one rescued, with innocence.

So a knight of the Holy Cross—Ned Hamilton Jr.—arrives into the world of the 21st century: a world of computers, mini-skirts, televisions, refrigerators, cars, phones, and cinema—straight out of the Middle Ages.

Time shifts once again, not just time, but space as well. Ned’s heroes—Ilona and her unconventional neighbor Valera Lystritsky—are thrown into Ancient Egypt, into the trenches of the Great Patriotic War, into England of the time of King Richard… and into the black world of the ominous castle Maldoror, whose inhabitants, in time immemorial, signed a Pact with the Devil…
