Where did the fierce enmity between the Rus’ and the lizards come from? Many wise men searched for the answer to this riddle, but there is still no single opinion. Some, citing the legendary singer Bayan, believe that the enmity began even in the blissful Iriy. Others say that the lizards came from unknown lands—somewhere in the east, or somewhere in the west. And still others cast everything into doubt: as if there had never been any lizards at all, and the numerous little objects from that era and other “proofs” were nothing but illusion and fraud…

But recent research by Professor Bagirov shed light on this centuries-old mystery. Thanks to new investigations, it became possible to discover ancient texts, and we offer them to your attention in translation into modern Russian and in literary processing by philologist-literary scholar Alexander Kondratyev.
