The cycle “Stories of Ivan Sudarev” consists of short stories, all united by one common theme: the Great Patriotic War. The stories were preceded by meetings and conversations between Aleksey Tolstoy and the listeners of one of the military schools—participants of the war—who told the writer about combat actions on the front and in partisan detachments in the enemy’s rear. These stories win over with their simplicity and authenticity.
“…Here are the Russian characters. It seems like an ordinary person, but when a harsh time comes… a great force—human beauty—rises within him,” wrote the author.
