The book “Russian Circumnavigators” is intended for a mass readership.
The material included in the book is interesting in that it allows the reader to learn about the characteristics and activities of military sailors—the first Russian circumnavigators—their sailing routes, and also introduces readers to the natural riches, climatic conditions, daily life, and customs of people in different parts of the globe.
In 1803–1805, the first Russian geographical expedition took place under the command of Prince I.F. Kruzenshtern on two ships— the frigate “Nadezhda” and the sloop “Neva.” Their circumnavigation journey exceeded the voyage of H. Columbus, Vasco da Gama, F. Drake, and Fernando Magellan in length. During the expedition, the coasts of South America and Japan were examined, and many islands in Oceania were discovered.
