The Mermaid's Stone

Ten-year-old Dan’ka, trying to avoid a school assignment, ends up in 1943. This time travel becomes a test of his courage and decency in wartime. The author, Ekaterina Karetnikova, known for her works for the younger generation and a holder of literary awards, presents a new book, “The Rusalka Stone.” Dan’ka Bykov, fascinated by his father-geologist’s stories about stones, is especially intrigued by the legend of a stone that grants wishes. After being tasked to talk about the Great Patriotic War, he makes a wish to avoid it—holding a mysterious green stone in his hand—and suddenly finds himself right in the thick of the military events of 1943. Now he must adapt and show true bravery in a new reality.
