RS 434: The First Centuries of Arab-Jewish Relations. Alexei Muravyov

We examine whether there are grounds in the Jewish legend that Jews played a role in creating Islam and passed the text of the Qur’an to the prophet Muhammad. We analyze the reasons why, during the Arab conquests, Jews more often supported Muslim rulers rather than Christian ones under whose influence they were. We consider how Shiite ideology changed Muslims’ attitude toward Jews. We discuss the development of relations between Arabs and Jews during the emergence of Islam and its first centuries with Doctor of Historical Sciences, head of the Department of Central Asian and Caucasian Countries at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of MSU, Alexey Vladimirovich Muravyov.
