Hisashi Kashiwai is a Japanese writer born in 1952 in Kyoto. He has written many essays, travel guides, and works of fiction, including the popular short-story series "Kamogawa Dining" that began in 2013 and already has ten books. The series tells about a small bistro in Kyoto run by a former police officer, Nagare Kamogawa, and his daughter, Koishi. At the restaurant, guests are served exquisite dishes of traditional Kyoto cuisine, and father and daughter also open an unusual detective agency specializing in finding forgotten tastes and dishes. The main characters help visitors not only find the dishes they’re looking for, but also bring back their own memories—helping them heal from psychological trauma.
