During a flood, rivers sometimes carve new channels. One day, a river appears near a certain village—and it’s teeming with fish. These fish are caught using a special method known to a resident whom everyone calls a witch. Some people go to the witch for help; others curse her, believing both the river and the fish are the work of evil spirits. A city boy ends up in this village—just for fun, he jumps from his yacht onto a barge drifting by. The barge runs aground in the reeds, where a cry for help can be heard. A girl asks the boy to pull her grandmother out of the swamp. The saved grandmother not only looks strange, but also speaks in riddles. From that moment on, an unending chain of incredible events begins in the life of the main character.
