The Balance of Fear

The notorious gangster Robert Tumanov was recruited by Russian special services and gradually raised to the very top of the criminal hierarchy. All so he could stay informed about what criminal authorities are up to. Tumanov is allowed a lot: to have expensive cars and apartments, to rob and steal within reasonable limits, and even to kill. But there is one thing he is absolutely forbidden to do: to love and to be loved. A person in his position must not have attachments, so as not to risk both himself and the woman he loves with death. But one day Robert still allowed himself to be carried away by Irina Hausman, the wife of a successful businessman. As expected, the consequences were grim: the young woman died, and Tumanov himself nearly ruined the whole operation…
