The book “Discourses in Sayings” was created by followers of Confucius after his death. It includes the Master’s sayings, his remarks about people and events, as well as a description of his actions—supplemented with short stories about his habits and way of life. This work serves as the foundation of Confucian teaching, touching on all aspects of moral improvement, as well as the art of communication and governing people—leading them to achievements in both personal and public matters.
The book is primarily intended for learning and begins with a phrase familiar to every Chinese person and setting the basis for Chinese culture’s existence: “To learn to apply what you’ve studied in a timely manner—doesn’t that bring joy?” The peculiarity of this edition is that Bronislav Bronislavovich Vinogrodsky, a well-known writer and expert on China, translated the ancient text not as a historical artifact, but as a practical guide to life and leadership—believing in the continued relevance of Confucius’s teachings. Thanks to the training of managers in the spirit of Confucianism, China became a world leader, and now it’s time to learn from their experience.
