Millions of people know them. For many, they were—and remain—idols. People imitate them; their words become quotes. Their songs are sung, and their mannerisms and hairstyles are copied. People watch films featuring them again and again. Their names will stay in the spotlight for years, in rumors, memories, and, of course, in people’s hearts. They are “stars”—gifted, talented public figures. However, what unites them is not only outstanding talent, public love, and fame. Everyone spoken of in this book died not by their own will. They were killed. Intentionally or by accident—but in any case, their lives were taken by people who admired them, revered them, exalted them. It’s a cruel paradox.
