A domesticated donkey should without question be considered an animal with a bright and distinctive character. Compared to other tamed animals, a donkey is far less stubborn and submissive to humans. People long ago noticed these traits of the donkey’s nature and captured them in understandable epithets: “donkey stubbornness,” “a donkey,” and others that live in the lexicon of many peoples. In fact, a donkey is no less gifted intellectually than a horse. And the essence of “donkey stubbornness” lies not in stupidity, but in the desire to disobey people—to refuse to carry out commands that, in the donkey’s opinion, simply have no point.
