Kalugin, Aleksey Alexandrovich (born July 11, 1963 in Moscow) — a Russian science-fiction writer. Author of more than thirty books—novels, collections of stories, and novellas. In 2004, for the story “In the Garden,” he received the “Bronze Snail” prize in the “Minor Form” category. In 2006, for the novel “Liner ‘Dasoku,’” he received the “Lunar Rainbow” prize.

After school he completed medical school in the specialty of feldsher-laboratory assistant. Then he served for two years in the Soviet Army in the Transbaikal Military District.

After the army, he graduated from the evening department of the All-Union Institute of Food Industry Engineers (specialist in canning). In parallel, he worked at the Institute of Biological and Medical Chemistry. In 1996, as a research assistant, he was preparing to defend a candidate dissertation on enzyme research for the genetic engineering complex.
