Gibran Khalil Gibran is a Lebanese-American philosopher, artist, poet, and writer. The book that made Gibran Khalil Gibran famous—The Prophet (1923)—is the pinnacle of the poet’s philosophy. Translated into more than 100 languages. In 1895 Gibran Khalil Gibran emigrated to the United States with his mother, brother, and sisters, and they lived in Boston. Gibran is considered worldwide one of the greatest poets of the 20th century; in 1983 UNESCO declared his year. Gibran’s books have been translated into dozens of languages, including all major European ones. His paintings are exhibited in many capitals of the world, and art scholars compare them to works by William Blake. All of his creativity is permeated by shared ideas of the unity of Truth and Beauty, the eternity of the Spirit, its infinity, and a striving for freedom against the pettiness of the crowd. In his pages, he tries to construct a philosophical call with the intention of giving the reader a state of their own Spirit’s yearning for freedom, the feeling of the necessity of moral existence, and a drive that leads to liberation from everything mundane and prosaic—when many values lose their original meaning. He managed to bring at least a few fragments of the unknown into human language. He elevated human language and human consciousness… as if all mystics, all poets, all creative souls, thanks to Khalil Gibran, had taken each other’s hands and merged.
