In the 17th century, the Solovetsky siege takes place. A former robber named Zosim, hiding from the Moscow authorities, finds refuge in the besieged Solovetsky Monastery. Here, he finds faith and is inspired by monastic life. Zosim’s mentors become the revered elder Eleazar and the monks Simon and Enakius, with whom he now shares a common fate. After the siege ends, Zosim’s fate intersects with the story of the archpriest Avvakum, who was imprisoned in Pustozersk.
