No one knows what the future will be, but everyone is sure that humanity will build paradise on Earth. To do that, genetic engineers have taught children of criminals to have a special gene implanted that will bring a shameful mark— a tag— to their faces, by which a potential criminal can be identified in a matter of seconds. The main hero, named Ryan, will try to rewrite the rules of the world he was born into and reach “purification” (a kind of afterlife/cleansing). But will Ryan be able to find his own «paradise»?
A realistic anti-utopia where the absurd idea is carried to extremes: children are responsible for the sins of their fathers. The author asks what makes a person a criminal—environment, genes, or personal choice? And is it possible to escape this predestination the way one can escape an island surrounded by an ocean?
