Edith Nesbit (1858–1924) — an English writer considered one of the founders of fantasy. It was her books that inspired Clive Staples Lewis to create the famous series “The Chronicles of Narnia”.
This edition includes three stories: “Five Children and It”, “The Phoenix and the Carpet”, and “The Story of the Amulet”. These are tales of the adventures of brothers and sisters who encounter an extraordinary creature — Sammied. He has lived in the sand for thousands of years and is able to grant one wish a day. But will the children find joy in their fulfilled dreams?
In the second story, a real Phoenix appears, along with a magical carpet that can take the kids anywhere — all they have to do is wish. The truth is that wishes must be phrased very precisely; otherwise, you might end up in a dungeon or, for example, on a rooftop. And then you’ll have to figure out how to get out.
And in the third story, the children must search for the second half of the amulet: only a whole amulet can grant their deepest wish — one for everyone. To do this, they’ll have to journey far into the past and uncover the secrets of Egyptian pharaohs and Babylonian queens.
