Travelers to the Third Millennium

A story about fifth-graders in the mid-20th century living on the banks of the Don, where construction of the Volga–Don Canal is taking place. Teacher Ivan Fomich calls the boys “Travelers into the Third Millennium,” because in fifty years it will be the year 2001 and today’s twelve-year-old schoolchildren will live in the new millennium. But until that time arrives, we’re in for an exciting tale of the kids’ adventures—reflected in the diary of one of the heroes, Grigory Chelноков.
