The Psychology of Art

The book by the outstanding Soviet scholar L.S. Vygotsky “Psychology of Art” was first published in 1965, the second edition in 1968, and it won universal recognition. In it, the author summarizes his works from 1915–1922 and at the same time prepares new psychological ideas that became Vygotsky’s main contribution to science. “Psychology of Art” is one of the fundamental works characterizing the development of Soviet theory of art and art itself.

The book is intended for specialists—people of aesthetics, psychologists, art critics—as well as for a wide range of readers.
