The MediaBook studio presents an audiobook by the well-known French philosopher, psychologist, and sociologist, Professor Alfred Jules Emil Fouillé — “Psychology of the French People.” “Human history cannot be reduced to natural history. By showing the significance of psychological and sociological factors, as well as their predominance—progress that advances along with the course of history—we will begin to study the French character. We will search for its sources in the character of the Gauls and Roman influence; then we will trace its various manifestations in language, religion, philosophy, literature, and the arts. We will verify our observations using accounts of France by foreigners. Finally, we will highlight two main scourges that, with more or less long-lasting influence, can have a destructive effect on the national temperament—and even on the national character of the French people: namely, systematic barrenness and alcoholism. Alfred Fouillée, “Psychology of the French People.”
