The collection includes selected articles by V.M. Bekhterev devoted to the nature of mental activity, the relationship between the mental and physical worlds, the scientist’s views on the theory of evolution and natural selection, and much more. As the scientist himself put it, the main idea of the articles under the general title “Mind and Life” is to describe the close interrelation between mind and life as derivatives of energy. A separate section includes works devoted to the topic of suggestion. Bekhterev’s interest in studying suggestion was driven not only by the needs of theory, but also by the widespread practice of this phenomenon. It’s enough to recall mesmerism, epidemics of hysteria, and enthusiasm for spiritualism to understand interest in suggestion as a factor in public life.
