A Simple Story

Maria Leontievna Kalfina (1908–1988, Tomsk) was a Soviet writer. Author of the novella “Stepmother,” for which in 1973 an eponymous film was made. “The Simple Novella” had less luck—its film adaptation was not made, although the Sverdlovsk studio intended to produce one.
The novella tells the story of the fate of the girl Vera Chernomyika, her troubles and sorrows, her strong character and spiritual nobility.
