The work describes events on the First Baltic Front in the winter of 1943–1944, when our troops launched a decisive offensive. The prototypes of its heroes are actual participants in those events; the surnames of those who survived have been changed, and the surnames of the dead have been preserved by the author.
“Farewell, Slavonic Girl” is built on a sharp shift of perspectives, with sudden transitions from “trench scenes,” from depictions of the horrors of war, to scenes full of light, joy, and love.
