The near future. Due to climate changes and extreme weather events, millions of people are left without shelter, and Europe’s economy and infrastructure begin to collapse. England suffocates under the flood of refugees, unthinkable heat, and an epidemic that has already spread across the whole world. Police forces struggle to keep order, while the coastline and much of the country are effectively handed over to countless gangs, led by the mysterious King of Death. In this world, the daughter of an ordinary man is kidnapped right from his house. Two years pass, and the police can’t help him at all. Against a backdrop of constant floods, hurricanes, and general chaos, the case of the missing girl barely interests anyone. And then the father, going mad with grief, starts searching on his own. He doesn’t yet know what kind of darkness it will lead him to, and he doesn’t know that the terrible legends about the King of Death are true. But other people also don’t realize into what kind of monster the desperation and love of an ordinary man can turn—and how far he may go for revenge.
