An Incident on the Ab-Suantan Highway

Engineer Zhuravyov of the “Zaslon” deep-space station is rushing to his own wedding, but plans collapse when a worrying piece of news arrives: his friend has vanished in orbit around Pluto. A gravitational anomaly has been detected there—and it is rapidly growing. Zhuravyov and his partner set out to search, but another burst catches them and carries them into a different sector of the Milky Way.

And this world is inhabited. Only local customs don’t allow an escape route, and the right technologies are not available to Earth people. They have just three hours before the anomaly collapses to understand the nature of the veidos and subspace rifts—and to do the impossible: lay a road home across eleven dimensions, making it back to those who are waiting.
